Conversion Van Camping Tips

Conversion van camping doesn’t give you the luxury of life in an RV, nor the discomfort of sleeping in a tent. It can be tough to safely heat a van at night, but it’s cheap compared to an RV, and you can go places they cannot. We spent more than 25 nights sleeping in our conversion van last year.

Life In A Conversion Van

Make your van into something that’s useable for you, especially if it’s going to be your residence for days or weeks at a time. For my wife and I, this meant having space to move around. We took out the two middle seats which, I convinced Ana, would be good armchairs for the living room. Then we had enough space for dressing or cooking. The bench-seat in back folds out into a comfortable bed, so we were all set for camping.

When traveling, you need a system of organization to keep your space inside the van livable. After our first long trip, we noticed the many things we never used. We got more efficient after that. We’re also able to keep the space open, despite carrying many things, by using plastic storage tubs you can buy almost anywhere. They stack well, and if you need more room at night, you can put them on the roof. They’re rainproof with the lids snapped on.

Heating A Conversion Van

Camping in a van can be cold at times, as it was for us in the deserts of Arizona last winter. We started the van and cranked up the heater once in a while, but only for brief periods. The danger of carbon monoxide poisoning is just too great to leave the car running while you are sleeping.

We also cooked to heat up the van. Our propane camp stove burned very clean. Any time it was cold, it was time to cook dinner, breakfast, or tea. This heated up the van nicely. Again, because of carbon monoxide, I wouldn’t recommend ever sleeping with a propane burner going. Still, sometimes a quick warm-up is all you need before you crawl under the blankets for the night.

The secret to heating a conversion van when camping is to give up. Enjoy meal time warm-ups, but unless you have electric power, I don’t know of a safe way to heat a van all night. Instead, you can heat yourselves. Wear warm clothing. Bring more blankets than you think you’ll need. Prepare a thermos bottle full of hot coffee each night, so it will be waitng for you in the morning. You get to warm the van when you make it, and warm up yourselves drinking it for breakfast.

Advantages Of Conversion Van Camping

Traveling and camping in a conversion van costs less than in an RV. The initial cost is a lot less if you buy used, as we did, and the cost of driving it is substantialy less. We averaged 18 miles per gallon on our last cross-country trip. Most recreational vehicles are lucky to get half of that, and they’re very expensive to maintain.

Compared with tent camping, a van is much more comfortable. Even if you backpack, you are probably going to drive some kind of car to wherever you go. With a van, you can come inside if it starts to rain. If you’re backpacking a long way from home, you can save on motels on the drive to and from the trailhead.

Camping can be more comfortable in an RV, but not in all ways. It’s nice, for example, to park anywhere. We’ve taken naps in parking lots, and nobody was the wiser, thanks to tinted windows, curtains, and the inconspicuousness of a van. At a free campground in Florida we got the best spot, on a bank overlooking Lake Talquin, because our van was small enough to fit there, unlike most of the RVs.

It’s great to be able to drive anywhere. In the conversion van, camping wherever we are when it gets dark is no problem. Finally, some larger RVs drag a car around because the big rig just isn’t practical for daily driving. Our coversion van is a second home AND our primary vehicle for shopping or going to work. That’s flexibilty.

Artixscan M1 Flatbed & Film Scanner 4800 Dpi

Filed under: Microtek — fuacwac @ 1:23 pm

Microtek sucks!!!!! It should be moved to 1 Star now – Moi – GA
Microtek’s M1 is the worst scanner I’ve used. The 1st one I bought worked great for the 1st set of slides I did. Then, a couple months later, the 2nd set didn’t scan the colors correctly by a long shot.

Soooo, they had me pay to send it back so they could send me another one…which turned out to be WORSE! It wouldn’t even come on at first. The lights flickered on, then went off quickly. And, even though I put the tray & slide tray in correctly, when I pulled it out, the slide tray fell into the scanner — ??? Still can’t figure that one out. So, the slide I had in it and the tray had to be jimmied out — which scratched my slide!!!!!!

I’m thoroughly pissed and am sending it back. I’ll stick with well known companies like Nikon or Epson.

Thirteen Days [VHS]

Thirteen Days [VHS] erschreckend – Llewellyn709 –

Klare Empfehlung!
Top Film – Klaus – NDS

–Jeff Shannon Thirteen Days [VHS]

RV Patio Awning Operation Checklist

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There are several types of awnings and awning manufacturers. This checklist may not cover every item as it pertains to your awning. The purpose of this checklist is to give you a basic guide to follow when opening and storing your retractable patio awning. Use only the checks that apply to your particular awning.

* Most awnings have some type of travel locks about mid way up, on both main support awning arms. These locks assist in storing the awning to the side of the RV while traveling. Release these locking mechanisms.

* Behind both main awning arms, on the support arms there will be a knob that should be hand tight. Loosen both of these knobs.

* Look up at the end of the awning roller tube on the right hand side towards the front of the RV. You will see a small lever. This lever is what locks the roller tube to the side of the RV. Take your awning rod and with the hooked end reach up and pull the lever down to release the locking lever.

* Look up, around the middle of the roller tube, and you should see a loop for the awning strap. With the hook end of your awning rod reach up and hook the loop. Pull the awning strap down until you can reach it with your hand. The awning should release and pull freely from both ends. Continue pulling down on the strap until the awning fabric and tube are fully extended.

* Now, the inner support arms, where you loosened the knobs, should slide freely to the top of the main arms and lock into place. Do this on both ends. When they are locked in place, starting on either end, take one hand and pull down on the main awning arm until the awning fabric is taught. With your other hand reach up and hand tighten the knob. Repeat this on the other end.

* On the side of each main arm you will notice a lever. Starting on either end, take one hand and put it on the front of the main arm and take the lever with your other hand. Raise the main arm up to the height you want the awning at, using the lever to help lift it. When you lower the lever it will lock into the closest adjusting hole on the arm where you release it. Repeat this on the other end.

Caution: Do not get your fingers or hands close to any moving or sliding parts.

Self Enquiry – Ramana Maharshi’s Method to Transend Mind and Attain Unconditional Peace

Ramana Maharshi’s Method of Self-Enquiry to Transcend the Mind Also Known as Vicara.

The reason you do not experience unconditional peace and love is because you are identified with your thoughts. Every thought that arises you believe that you thought it, it is yours and it defines you. You believe you are the thinker.

In this identification with thought, you identify yourself as separate from everything around you. And therefore, there is conflict. You are a slave to whatever thoughts arise because you identify with them.

But it is possible to experience yourself beyond your identification with thinking. It is possible to experience yourself as “The Self” as the state of being that feels no separation, no boundaries and no conflict, that is a witness to everything rather than identified with it.

The very nature of this state of being, call it “The Self” is unconditional peace.

Ramana Marharshi taught the method of self-enquiry to get you out of your identification with the mind. Once that identification is broken, then there is only the Self, the experience of being. And this being is aware. In resting or “abiding as the self” you attain perfect freedom, a state of unconditional peace, bliss and love.

He recommended looking for this “I” feeling by asking “who am I?”

It is not seeking an answer in the mind, but rather actually looking for this experience of “I.”

In looking for this “I” it is quickly seen that this “I “that is here has nothing to do with the thoughts or the body. Thoughts may arise and disappear yet this experience of “I am” remains. It is an experience of being, of awareness, that cannot be stopped, that cannot be removed. You cannot look behind it, because it is all that is here. It has not positive or negative, it simply is.

Begin by asking the question “Who am I?” with every inhale until you are well grounded in this experience of “I am.” Because you are so used to identifying yourself as your thoughts, it might take a while. Look for this sensation of “I” in this moment. This feeling of being.

If you still are unable to experience this sensation of “I am,” try this:

Close your eyes and stop thinking for 1 second at least and notice what is there. You will say “nothing” but who is aware of that nothing? There is still you there, so notice this feeling of you that is there, being aware of the nothing.

Out of habit, you will keep being pulled back into identifying with the thoughts that arise, so ask often ‘Who am I?” and once you are back resting as pure being, remain in this experience as long as you can until again you see you are caught up in your thoughts.

At some point, you will be able to remain in this feeling of “I am” for long periods of time and you will not need to ask the question any longer. But as long as you get caught up in the mind, ask the question.

The mind is very tricky and you will get caught up again and again. Be patient, it is a challenge.

But more and more, you will be able to remain in this experience of “I am” without the need for enquiry. Simply then you are present, you are presence itself. Then it is simply about remaining here, as being, allowing whatever arises to arise and disappear again in consciousness.

Eventually, you will learn to be able to rest as the Self and be a witness to the thoughts arising. In this there is incredible peace.

One teaching that is often lost from Ramana Marharshi was the need to be in the presence of a fully enlightened teacher. For it was not his teachings that Ramana was known for, but his spiritual presence. People easily moved into states of Samadhi just by sitting nearing him. People came to him from all over the world, because simply by sitting in his presence, their lives were transformed.

You can now experience such spiritual presence simply by listening to a unique CD. In listening to the CD, enlightened presence (known as grace, shaktipat, deeksha) is transmitted to you, allowing you to easily enter into deep states of peace and bliss.
